摘要: Abstract Melting and freezing are very common phenomena in everyday life. This review focusses on the statistical mechanics of these ubiquitous phase transitions highlights recent work bulk surface melting solids, crystal growth from melt, kinetic glass transition supercooled liquids. Both phenomenological microscopic density functional approaches discussed. Particular emphasis is placed colloidal suspensions, which realizations simple liquids a mesoscopic length scale that also exhibit phenomena.
