摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on the concept of optical pattern formation. The field formation (OPF) studies spatial and spatiotemporal phenomena that arise in structure electromagnetic planes orthogonal with respect to direction propagation. Most theoretical treatments interaction between matter radiation introduce plane wave approximation—that is, they assume electric is uniform each transverse plane. However, OPF mainly nonlinear media, where emerge spontaneously as a consequence an instability; another name commonly used designate “transverse optics.” Historically, broad interest emerged natural evolution previous development instabilities chaos, when main attention shifted gradually from purely temporal effects spatio-temporal phenomena. For both fields OPF, continuous inspiration arose formulation general disciplines Haken's synergetics or Prigogine's theory dissipative structures
