摘要: In the field of history we are currently observing a ‘memory wave’. A key feature growing bulk publications on memory is that they revolve around relationship to past in past. This meta-historical approach implies study both scholarly and non-scholarly production, distribution reception historical representations. This article discusses some influential notions: collective memories, emblems, icons appropriation. Memory participants sometimes integrate use received meanings values their own culture, might disturb larger mnemonic community which also belong. To clarify my argument I furthermore analyse ‘Volendams meisje’, famous female Dutch icon. course nineteenth twentieth century original emblem for Netherlands – heroic Virgin Liberty was replaced by this young girl traditional costume. Since 1870s images rural life were gradually used construct national identity, myth unity, based cultural ethnic criteria.
