摘要: Abstract Present municipal solid waste landfills generate biogas and leachate. Biogas is flared on site to destroy noxious contaminants water extracted from leachate be drained away. However, could alternatively a cheap fuel for winter heating provide horticultural greenhouses with abundant carbon dioxide boost plant growth all year long. The paper describes how this idea was tested in full-scale experiment through partnership between French Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA) pool of private industries. A commercial boiler converted combustion exhaust gases rich were purified remove phytotoxic residues. CO2 supplementation technique using these tested. Two soilless rose crops grown under two identical 300 m2 plastic greenhouses, one equipped gas injection the other one, kept normal atmosphere, being control. Crop yields cut quality compared during 24 months. It found that high crop productivity gains allowed by bring major contribution greenhouse economics, much more important than reduction costs brought burning biogas. This underlines potential new efficient locating near modern landfill sites France elsewhere developed countries.
