摘要: Abstract Within soil, bacteria are naturally found in multi-species communities, where interactions can lead to emergent community properties. It is critical that we study a social context investigate community-level functions. We previously showed when co-cultured, Pseudomonas fluorescens Pf0-1 and Pedobacter sp. V48 engage interspecies spreading on hard agar surface, behavior which required close contact was dependent the nutritional environment. In this study, whether ability participate widespread among P. isolates, requirements for interaction vary. find phenotype not restricted between V48, but more prevalent one clade group two clades genus. also discovered with certain isolates occurred without contact, indicating induction of by putative diffusible signal. As case ISS Pf0-1+V48, motility all interacting pairs influenced environment, no behaviors observed under high nutrient conditions. While Pf0-1+V48 require low NaCl conditions, broader range requirement salt variable. The prevalence phenotypes within literature indicates community-induced locomotion general, particular, likely important crucial continue microbial their properties gain fuller understanding functions communities.
