Blepharitis in the United States 2009: a survey-based perspective on prevalence and treatment.

摘要: ABSTRACT Like dry eye disease 15 years ago, blepharitis today is a poorly defined condition about which there considerable misunderstanding. For variety of reasons, little good data on either the prevalence or how eyecare practitioners currently treat it. The work reported herein consists two recent studies: telephone survey representative sample adult US population (n = 5,000) whose purpose was to discover frequency common ocular surface symptoms associated with blepharitis; and study that queried selected group ophthalmologists 120) similarly optometrists 84) in their practices, existence comorbid conditions, management strategies. This suggests are very population, younger individuals reporting more, more frequent, than older people, contrary clinical dogma. Ophthalmologists report commonly seen practice 37% 47% patients, respectively, it widely agreed meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) most cause evaporative disease. In addition, paradigms shifting away from traditional antibiotic ointment warm compress therapy prescription for anterior posterior blepharitis.
