Understanding and Treatment of Chronic Abdominal Pain in Pediatric Primary Care

摘要: This study examined the practices used by primary care pediatricians to assess and treat chronic abdominal pain (CAP), as an initial step in guiding clinical practice guideline (CPG) development. A survey was mailed a random sample of office-based pediatrician members (primary [PCPs]) American Medical Association. PCPs (n = 470) provided information about typical presentation CAP, assessment/treatment approaches their own practice, definition functional gastrointestinal disorder (FGID), familiarity with Rome Criteria for diagnosing FGIDs. Substantial variability among noted across all these areas. Results suggest that perceptions pediatric CAP vary widely PCPs; no single standard emerged guide development CPG this population. Future research should evaluate efficacy specific strategies currently use identify potential opportunities improving assessment treatment care.
