摘要: The Orca Basin (an intraslope depression located in the Gulf of Mexico) collects sedimentary particles terrestrial origin (clastic and organic mainly supplied by Mississippi River) marine (biogenic productivity). basin is partly filled with dense brines leached from salt diapirs cropping out on sea floor, permanently stratified. A strong pycnocline induces anoxic bottom conditions, expectedly favorable to matter (OM) preservation. Here, we report OM upper 750 cm below floor Core MD02-2552 (Holocene). content dominated marine-derived amorphous OM. assemblage unexpectedly degraded some extent, which may be accounted for a relatively long residence time at halocline-pycnocline ∼2240 m. Thus are temporarily trapped kept contact dissolved oxygen-rich overlying water mass. Lastly, land-derived fraction shows co-variations clay mineral supply.
