Humor Creation Ability and Mental Health: Are Funny People more Psychologically Healthy?

摘要: Sense of humor is a multidimensional personality construct. Some components may be more relevant to psychological health than others. While there has been considerable amount research on styles, creation ability (HCA) remained relatively understudied in relation well-being. This study employed two methods assessing HCA (a cartoon captioning task and involving the generation humorous responses vignettes depicting everyday frustrating situations) associations with mental variables. In addition these performance tasks, 215 participants completed measures four styles (Humor Styles Questionnaire) well-being (self-esteem, satisfaction life, optimism, depression, anxiety, stress). No significant correlations were found between either tasks any measures. contrast, significantly correlated variables ways consistent previous research. addition, situation was positively all styles. These findings add support view that create less are people use their daily lives. Implications for humor-based interventions discussed.
