The Healthy African American Families (HAAF) project: from community-based participatory research to community-partnered participatory research.

摘要: During the past two decades, there has been an increased use of community-based participatory research in public health activities, especially as part efforts to understand disparities affecting communities color. This article describes history and lessons learned a long-standing community project, Healthy African American Families (HAAF), Los Angeles, California. HAAF evolved from partnership formed by advisory board, university, federal agency independent, incorporated organization that facilitates brokers promotion activities within its community. created mechanisms for education networks relationships reciprocity through which mutual support, research, interventions are integrated. These sustained, institutionalized unite resources both scientific expertise community-partnered model address multiple problems community, including preterm birth, HIV, asthma, depression, diabetes. The process builds on existing resiliency centuries self-help, problem-solving, cooperative action, activism demonstrates how can be mechanism directing power, collective system change, social justice addressing at level.
