Modifications functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) permit more sophisticated experimental designs that link images closely to a subject's perceptions and behavior, while increased magnet strengths even greater spatial resolution activated areas. Moreover, by combining fMRI with other techniques, can answer previously unaddressable questions timing which areas are activated. Other techniques not far advanced, but may someday image neural activity directly, rather than following increases blood flow current methods do.
