摘要: This study presents a modular, large-scale, magneto-rheological (MRF) by-pass valve to be used in seismic damper retrofits for energy mitigation. The is designed, constructed and tested. MR can retrofit commercial passive as semi-active device. performance of the MRF was characterized by means quasi-static characterizations. A new fluid also developed application. has low off-state viscosity high field-dependent yield strength. rheology evaluated with shear rheometer. In addition, theoretical model taking into account geometric dimensions, properties applied magnetic field Three-dimensional electromagnetic finite element analysis determine maximize strength inside valving region. Both experimental results show that modular large-scale generate sufficient dynamic force range which meets high-force requirements structures subjected or other significant hazards.
