Nursing role in the multidisciplinary management of motor neurone disease

摘要: Motor neurone disease (MND) is a debilitating and progressive neurological disorder in which degeneration of the motor neurones results muscle weakness wasting. Recent high-profile media coverage about assisted suicide euthanasia has increased awareness MND yet still relatively little known or understood it, even among healthcare profession. This article looks at key areas management patients with MND, including role nurse importance well-coordinated multidisciplinary team. Ways to deal communication problems, respiratory dysfunction, feeding nutrition, legal ethical issues are examined. Good involves hospital community-based The essence care good symptomatic failure nutritional problems that result from difficulties swallowing increasing dependency. Palliative should be introduced before terminal stages after careful discussion patient carers.
