摘要: Abstract : The U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) has a long history in the fabrication of composite materials for both lightweight structures and vehicular armor. Through years, ARL research focused on cost-efficient processes with Army-specific goals mind. While retaining perspective, we are focusing basic scientific fundamentals that lead to high quality, cost-effective systems uses across spectrum. In our research, have been increasing fiber-volume fraction by vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) order produce aerospace-grade qualities. Of specific focus is control processing parameters during infusion obtain fractions like those autoclave-processed composites. Using combination viscosity control, ARL-based VARTM techniques, pressure system, increased content from 50% (ARL s normal range particular material system process) over 60%. Future work will achieving 65% this system. This jump can provide higher strength-to-weight ratios parts while cutting cost. As result, well way providing advanced materials. Processing characteristics presented evaluations discussed.
