摘要: ABSTRACT. Despite a general recognition that treatment of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) has become large-scale undertaking, the size treated population and associated costs are not well quantified. This report combines data available from variety sources places current (midyear 2001) estimated global maintenance dialysis at just over 1.1 million patients. The this been expanding rate 7% per year. Total therapy cost patient year in United States is approximately $66,000. Assuming figure reasonable average, annual worldwide ESRD 2001, excluding transplantation, will be between $70 $75 billion US dollars. If trends prevalence continue, as seems probable, exceed 2 patients by 2010. care group represents major societal commitment: aggregate treating during coming decade $1 trillion, thought-provoking sum any economic metric.
