摘要: Malnutrition and weight loss are highly prevalent in persons with Alzheimer's disease related dementias. Oral intake is an important interventional target for addressing these nutritional consequences. However, the efficacy of interventions remains poorly understood as prior syntheses have failed to examine impact intervention approaches on malnutrition hypothesized mechanisms action dementia. This review aimed determine mealtime improve oral outcomes Four databases yielded 1712 studies, resulting 32 studies that met inclusion criteria. Studies included education, environmental modifications, feeding, supplementation, other pharmacologic/ecopsychological interventions. While majority reported statistically significant improvements at least 1 outcome, study design outcome measures were heterogenous many lacking adequate statistical power or blinding. Collectively, we found moderate evidence suggest preliminary feeding interventions, modifications may confer improvements. Findings clarify state existing regarding various strategies improving some promising, adequately powered rigorously designed multidimensional trials needed inform clinical decision-making real-world contexts.
