摘要: Objective To detect the periodontal status of male smokers and betel chewers in a rural community Sri Lanka compare it with that non-tobacco users same community. Methods A cross-sectional based study was carried out sample 2277 adult males aged 20-60 years, adopting multistage cluster sampling technique. The present analysis confined to 2178 subjects who were mutually exclusive smokers, or users. assessed by clinical measurement levels bacterial plaque (PLI), gingival inflammation (GI) loss epithelial attachment (LA). All measurements on four sites all teeth except third molars mean values for parameters calculated. Results Bivariate revealed overall periodontitis significantly higher than Multiple linear regression showed there no significant effects smoking chewing per se LA, independent age, socioeconomic (SES) whether not controlled PLI. effect quantified tobacco use LA statistically regardless PLI SES. However, considered limited when compared oral hygiene. Conclusions findings highlighted importance hygiene aetiology while confirming statistical significance LA. Oral may be as risk indicators periodontitis.
