摘要: The 2016 M w 7.8 Kaikōura earthquake was one of the largest earthquakes in New Zealand’s historical record, and it generated most significant local source tsunami to affect Zealand since 1947. There are many unusual features this from a perspective: epicentre well inland coast, multiple faults were involved rupture, greatest damage residential property far source. In paper, we summarise tectonic setting geological evidence for past tsunamis on then present tide gauge runup field observations that followed earthquake. For size tsunami, as inferred measured heights, impact event relatively modest, discuss reasons which include: state at time earthquake, degree co-seismic uplift, nature coastal environment region.
