摘要: Objective To summarise and meta-analyse current literature on metabolic syndrome (MetS) benign prostatic enlargement (BPE), focusing all the components of MetS their relationship with prostate volume, transitional zone prostate-specific antigen urinary symptoms, as evidence suggests an association between lower tract symptoms (LUTS) due to BPE. Methods An extensive PubMed Scopus search was performed including following keywords: ‘metabolic syndrome’, ‘diabetes’, ‘hypertension’, ‘obesity’ ‘dyslipidaemia’ combined ‘lower symptoms’, ‘benign enlargement’, hyperplasia’ ‘prostate’. Results Of retrieved articles, 82 were selected for detailed evaluation, eight included in this review. The studies enrolled 5403 patients, which 1426 (26.4%) had defined according classification. Patients significantly higher total volume when compared those without (+1.8 mL, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.74–2.87; P < 0.001). Conversely, there no differences patients or International Prostate Symptom Score LUTS subdomain scores. Meta-regression analysis showed that older (adjusted r = 0.09; 0.02), obese 0.26; 0.005) low serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations −0.33; 0.001). Conclusions Our results underline exacerbating role MetS-induced derangements development BPE. Obese, dyslipidaemic, aged men have a risk having determinant enlargement.
