摘要: Abstract Results from deuterium permeation through 309S stainless steel have been combined with oxide growth and characterization information to establish the effects of surface oxides on permeation. Permeation results for 0.25 mm thick diaphragms were obtained using an all-metal, ion-pumped vacuum system a quadrupole mass spectrometer. The temperature range covered was 250 450°C upstream pressure 100 torr. Analysis by sputter-through Auger electron spectroscopy (AFS) revealed that some reduced or altered process. study included thicknessess 2500 A grown various procedures. Other techniques employed proton-induced X-ray (PIX), scanning microscopy (SEM), transmission (TEM). investigated found only minor effect measured permeabilities.
