摘要: Purpose Osteoarthritis of the thumb basal joint is a very common and disabling condition that frequently affects middle-aged women. Many different surgical techniques have been proposed for extensive degenerative arthritis first carpometacarpal (CMC) joint. Joint replacement has an effective treatment this condition. The purpose article to present outcome total cemented trapeziometacarpal implant in more advanced stages disease. Methods Total arthroplasty was performed on 26 thumbs 25 patients treat osteoarthritis (Eaton Littler III IV) between 1998 2003. Indications surgery after failure conservative were severe pain, loss pinch strength, diminished motion limited activities daily living. A prosthesis used series. average follow-up time 59 months. Results At final evaluation, abduction averaged 60° opposition base small finger present. strength 5.5 kg (85% nonaffected side). One patient had posttraumatic loosening, which revised with satisfactory results. Radiographic studies at evaluations did not show signs atraumatic loosening. complained minimal remaining 24 pain free. Conclusions In our series, CMC proven be efficacious improved motion, relief. We currently recommend technique stage early IV older low activity demands. Type study/level evidence Therapeutic IV.
