Neither homed nor homeless: Contested definitions and the personal worlds of the poor

摘要: Abstract As economic conditions in the United States worsen, controversy about causes of and solutions to homelessness intensifies. The public stands by normative definitions home thereby discrediting personal worlds poor people. Although labeled homeless, many people are contesting this categorization claiming that environments experiences constitute their indeed home. Public discourse is contrasted with results from fieldwork state Delaware. Observations interviews ‘homeless’ Delawareans suggest defining interpreting own versions on basis what socially tolerated, immediately available, individually desired.
