摘要: Objectives To analyze the outcomes and risk factors associated with endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) in children less than one year of age. Background EMB has proven to be an integral diagnostic tool evaluate suspected myocarditis, identify tumor histology, provide tissue-graft surveillance after cardiac transplantation. The morbidity mortality EMB been well established adult literature reviewed general pediatric population, but there remains limited data for first life. Methods We retrospectively cardiology database at our institution patients age who underwent between 1984 2008. Cardiac catheterization reports were patient demographics, indication, procedural details, complications. Results A total 99 EMBs performed, 49 evaluation 43 transplant rejection surveillance, 3 4 endocardial fibroelastosis. Forty procedures performed age < 6 months 11 complications 59 age ≥ 6 four complications. In total, 12 (12.1%) complications: 9 arrhythmias, perforations requiring pericardiocentesis, 1 pneumothorax, death. Univariate analysis revealed a significant association perforation both weight <8 kg (P = 0.05) <6 (P = 0.01). Conclusion Endomyocardial biopsies can safely infants, although under 6 8 represent high group deserve special consideration due incidence this cohort.© 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
