摘要: Groundwater has increasingly become a water supply source in Chile. In the future this trend is expected to grow as consequence of increased use due economic growth, together with population urbanization, contamination and pollution, well projected climate change impacts. The Water Code 1981, previous codes, were essence designed for surface and, thus, contained only few references groundwater. This regulatory absence been covered groundwater guidelines established through internal administrative acts. As it stands, legal institutional context considers required instruments mechanisms balance growing demand need protect preserve resources. chapter investigates whether framework effective ensure that managed sustainably, analysis two cases located an arid region northern Chile: Copiapo Valley Pampa del Tamarugal Aquifer.
