摘要: The higher costs associated with teaching hospitals have received some attention in the literature. objective of current study was to determine increase resource consumption resident education knee arthroplasty surgery. Seventy-four patients who underwent primary total same hospital were studied (50 private practice and 24 practice). Time operating room medical severity illness noted. Hospital charges used as a measure consumption. In addition, length stay in-hospital consultations complications observed. Kruskall-Wallis, chi square, stepwise multiple regression analysis performed. mean age 68 years. Patients surgery at service had ($30,311 ± $3325 versus $23,116 $3341) longer times (190 19 minutes 145 29 minutes). These also trend toward more comorbid conditions (0.71 0.42). Stepwise showed that most important predictor time. results show 22% perioperative for service. measured cost is significantly lower than what has been reported other series (82%). At institution, anesthesia orthopaedic residents work together on all cases perform significant percent procedures under direct supervision. increased observed likely attributable hands-on approach taken train residents.
