摘要: Abstract Ethnopharmacological relevance Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex endocrine and reproductive disorder. A main hallmark includes increased androgen production. The root of Paeonia lactiflora Pall. (Bai Shao) used in Chinese herbal medicine for disorders, however its effects mechanisms on ovarian theca cells has not yet been fully elucidated. Aim the study aim this was to evaluate effect paeoniflorin extract (PFE), constituents Bai Shao, production cells. Materials methods Primary murine were treated with concentrations PFE (1–100 µg/mL) presence dexamethasone (10 µM) media-only as control. After 24 h, culture media collected biochemistry assays testosterone progesterone. Expression key steroidogenic enzymes, cholesterol side-chain cleavage (CYP11A1) 17α-hydroxylase (CYP17A1) characterized using immunofluorescence staining, immunoblotting qRT-PCR. Results Dexamethasone significantly enhanced secretion (P  Conclusions may reduce over-secretion through downregulation CYP17A1 CYP11A1. These findings provide scientific evidence treat hyperandrogenism
