摘要: SUMMARY Although the parameters used in seismic hazard analyses imply a long-term strain rate, they are usually not checked against such alternative estimates. In this study, we determine for eastern Mediterranean (a-value, b-value, mmax and corresponding moment rate ) consistent with seismicity data, tectonic information geodetic rates. The dense data coverage region permits detailed comparison of horizontal field, , as recorded 500-yr long historical catalogue measured geodetically. We find that is very similar style over all magnitude ranges within each different regime study region. Furthermore, to . Except along Hellenic Arc, amplitude. verify high rates accommodated catalogues spanning at least 100–200 yr, should reflect release when averaged zone. To estimate reliably, accurate knowledge about recurrence intermediate size events (Mw= 4.5–6.5) needed. For b≥ 1, these can accommodate up 60 per cent strain. combined analysis provides an seismic/total major strike-slip zones region, Northern Anatolian Fault Kephalonian Fault, experience little negligible aseismic deformation. remaining 10–30 total deformation aseismic. Trench largely uncoupled, 50 90 compressive released aseismically. Only extensional component end trench appears significantly seismically active.
