摘要: Reclamation of wastewater for irrigation has had an important role to play in Melbourne’s struggle manage water resources as effectively possible. Rapid growth within the first few years founding city led a sanitary crisis, which provided impetus construction large sewerage system. Interest using effluent from sewage treatment plants gained attention late 1970s, but despite some activity early 1980s, it was not until 2005 that large-scale schemes became reality. Successful degree, there have also been problems, and future viability one scheme commercial vegetable production is threatened by high salt concentrations treated wastewater. Greywater at household level become commonplace Melbourne over last decade, difficult regulate health risks urgently need be quantified. More recently, several third-pipe schemes, where reticulated households, commissioned with plans many more, stormwater growing popularity, particularly public open spaces.
