摘要: James Duff Brown was an influential and energetic librarian in Great Britain the late nineteenth early twentieth centuries. His Subject Classification has characteristics that were unusual idiosyncratic during his own time, but work deserves recognition as one of precursors modern bibliographic classification systems. This article discusses a number theories practices developed. In particular, it investigates views on order main classes, phenomenon concrete subjects, need for synthesized notations. It traces these ideas briefly into future through S. R. Ranganathan, Research Group, second edition Bliss Bibliographic system. concludes Brown's warrants further study light may shed current theory practice.
