摘要: Surgery for repair or replacement of the menisci is one most common procedures in orthopedic surgery, with estimates more than million operations each year. In cases involving complex tears degeneration, injured portion meniscus usually removed (meniscectomy) or, less commonly, entire replaced using a meniscal allograft. However, meniscectomy does not restore proper mechanics native tissue and can lead to early osteoarthritis (OA). Similarly, allograft has demonstrated clear evidence chondral protection, issues cost, viral transmission, technical challenges remain. Thus, researchers have developed variety scaffolds aimed at meniscus. Several these undergone clinical trials been implemented practice. this chapter, we will discuss available developing detail. Following discussion types materials fabrication techniques create scaffolds, examine results acellular intended be semipermanent replacements We then assess promote regeneration meniscus-like tissue. Finally, elaborate on recent efforts combining cells tissue-engineered constructs conclude future directions replacement.
