Independence and learning disabilities: why we must also recognize vulnerability

摘要: Services for adults with learning disabilities are currently based on the promotion of four key principles: rights, independence, choice and social inclusion. This paper will argue that, while these principles welcome, they need to be balanced against a fifth principle ‐ that vulnerable should adequately protected risk abuse. It draw both recent high‐profile cases violence abuse people research evidence explore whether current plans transform adult care through use self‐directed support individual budgets offer safe future.
