摘要: Background Aberrant growth of blood vessels in the eye forms basis many incapacitating diseases and currently majority patients respond to anti-angiogenic therapies based on blocking principal angiogenic factor, vascular endothelial factor (VEGF). While highly successful, new therapeutic targets are critical for increasing number individuals susceptible retina-related pathologies our increasingly aging population. Prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is a cell surface peptidase that absent normal tissue vasculature but expressed neovasculature most solid tumors, where we have previously shown regulate invasion. Because pathologic responses often triggered by distinct signals, sought determine if PSMA also contributes angiogenesis provoked hypoxia retina, which underlies debilitating retinopathies.
