摘要: Abstract Mach bands are illusory bright and dark seen where a luminance plateau meets ramp, as in half-shadows or penumbras. A tremendous amount of work has been devoted to studying the psychophysics potential underlying neural circuitry concerning this phenomenon. number theoretical models also have proposed, originating seminal studies himself. The present article reviews main experimental findings after 1965 recent theories early vision that attempted account for effect. It is shown different share working principles can be grouped into three classes: (a) feature-based; (b) rule-based; (c) filling-in. In order evaluate individual proposals, it necessary consider them larger picture visual science determine how they contribute understanding general. Copyright © 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd.
