摘要: One hundred thirty-two children who attended a research day-care center were studied to determine whether passive tobacco smoke exposure was associated with an increased rate of otitis media effusion or number days during the first 3 years life. Based on preliminary studies, serum cotinine concentration greater than equal 2.5 ng/mL considered indicative smoke. Otitis diagnosed using pneumatic otoscopy by nurse practitioners and pediatricians reviewed children's health status each weekday. The 87 concentrations had 38% higher new episodes life 45 lower undetectable (incidence density ratio = 1.38, 95% confidence interval 1.21 1.56). average duration episode 28 in elevated 19 (P less .01). It is estimated that 8% cases this population 17.6% may be attributable
