Resilience and flood risk management: a systems approach applied to lowland rivers

摘要: Floods along lowland rivers still cause a lot of damage and casualties although centuries experience with flood risk management have passed. In order to reduce impacts prevent waves from causing disasters, the current alternative strategies need be reconsidered. As potential solution Dutch policy makers propose increase resilience systems, since resilient systems are expected able cope better disturbances such as waves. their policies, however, water not clearly defined. Resilience has positive connotation it is difficult explain exactly what aspects for are. this thesis was verified. The objective research establish whether applying concept facilitates development comprehensive large river systems. To study benefits resulting application first defined quantified by indicators. Secondly, case studies were carried out on parts Rhine, Meuse Mekong Rivers.
