摘要: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the practical use video cameras during a study with young children. Design/methodology/approach This investigates in research children’s utilisation semiotic tools communicate play interactions Francophone preschool classroom British Columbia. It examines in-the-moment decision making researcher support accommodation camera their space and ensure rich data were recorded. Findings Children accommodated four distinct ways. These included: curiosity investigation cameras; engagement recording process researcher; incorporation into play; disregard it. Practical implications The findings suggest that recordings can be an effective method collection children provide sources learning through when flexible responsive supports it. Originality/value Recent advances technology have resulted increased as resource for gathering empirical qualitative research. Whilst ethical considerations related analysis been subject some discussion (Flewitt, 2005), experience using has received less attention.
