The Knowledge Ecology of Open-Source Software Projects

摘要: In this paper we characterize the processes of knowledge making in open-source software projects as an ecology agents, artifacts, rules, resources, activities, practices and interactions. order to grasp its dynamic features consider interactive systems based on dense interactions between humans technical artifacts within electronic media. Technology, rather than formal or informal organization, embodies most conditions for governance projects, hence becoming a critical pathway understanding collective task accomplishment, coordination processes. Based in-depth analysis two examine three kinds respectively inscribing technical, organizational, institutional knowledge. The are 'dynamic vehicles' that make creation, accumulation, dissemination possible by circulating throughout Internet. For each them describe different activities network dynamics which they embedded. Our preliminary findings support ecological view, contradictory requirements innovation stability project-based balanced mechanisms variation, selection, stabilization. Index
