摘要: Background: Accumulating epidemiological evidence from several populations supports the important role of Mediterranean-type diet (MeDi) in reducing risk for age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, relevant literature is clearly deficient most Mediterranean countries that more closely adhere to originally described MeDi. Greece resides basin, and older generations traditionally a Methods: We here present design preliminary baseline characteristics Hellenic Longitudinal Investigation Aging Diet (HELIAD). The HELIAD population-based, multidisciplinary, collaborative study designed estimate prevalence incidence AD, other dementias, mild cognitive impairment, neuropsychiatric conditions aging Greek population investigate associations between nutrition dysfunction/age-related this population. also ascertains demographic, medical, social, environmental, clinical, nutritional, neuropsychological determinants lifestyle activities. Results: In total, 1,050 participants random sample have already completed initial evaluation. subjects were, on average, 73.4 (SD = 6.0) years old, 60% were female, poorly educated with an average 5.41 3.5) education. performance tests was equivalent scores previous normative samples. More than one third under investigation considered be at high malnutrition. Conclusions: may provide data expanding our knowledge regarding prevalence, incidence, factors AD region.
