On the dispersion in direction of interstellar polarization

摘要: The spatial distribution of polarization angle is summarized for 15 dark clouds that lack prominent star formation, four clusters embedded in clouds, one evolved cluster with little associated extinction, and six cloud complexes. Most have either well-defined mean direction over their extent or two three zones having noticeably different directions. Nearly all regions a single local maximum number angle. Clouds more complex than do without clusters. It proposed the enhanced dispersion may be closely young stars and/or dense gas, simply cluster. greatest among clusters, 0.7 radians, occurs L1689 Ophiuchus. 54 refs.
