Experimental study on the formation of shear bands and effect of microstructure in Al-2124/SiCp composites under dynamic compression

摘要: Al-2124 alloy reinforced with 17% vol. SiC particles three sizes 3, 13, 37µm (MMCs) were tested under impact compression using a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) system. Microexaminations of samples revealed microscopic characteristics the formation shear bands occurring in MMCs. As comparison, matrix material, was also tested. Shear formed more readily Al-2124/SiCp 3µm than and 13 or particles. The relations between microstructural distributions, spacing have been analysed.
