Incidence of bloodborne virus infection and risk behaviours in a cohort of injecting drug users in Victoria, 1990-1995.

摘要: OBJECTIVE To assess changes in risk behaviours for transmission of bloodborne viruses and incidences prevalences these a field-recruited cohort injecting drug users. DESIGN Prospective longitudinal study. SETTING Metropolitan rural Victoria, June 1990 to December 1995. SUBJECTS 626 current users (i.e., who had injected drugs within the previous 12 months). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Seroconversion HIV hepatitis B C (HBV HCV), infection. RESULTS incidence was very low (0.2 per 100 person-years). HCV high (10.7 person-years), but fell throughout study, although downward trend did not reach statistical significance. HBV moderate (1.8 person-years) fall. Prevalence behaviours, notably sharing needles syringes, decreased significantly. CONCLUSIONS Significant change has occurred cohort, confirming results cross-sectional studies use.
