摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses considerations that are necessary in the metabolic investigations of Plasmodia. It some current research trends seem to advance knowledge fundamental biochemical processes occurring parasites and involved host–parasite relationship. The pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) for which malaria parasite could have an absolute requirement is probably principal production sugars nucleic acid synthesis. There now evidence most studied up present dependent on glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-CPD), initial enzyme PPP, being unlikely thrive enzyme-deficient cells thus unable produce overwhelming infection. Further metabolism remains enigmatical, but with mammalian species discussed. Other topics considered carbon dioxide fixation by parasites, aerobic mechanisms, chloroquine-resistant parasites. also considers host during infection—namely, biological changes erythrocytes—the effects acute infection host–tissue host–lipid metabolism. Such studies enabling advances be made understanding pathological process malaria.
