Understanding barriers to routine HIV screening: knowledge, attitudes, and practices of healthcare providers in King County, Washington.

摘要: Objective In 2006, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended routine HIV screening in healthcare settings persons between 13 64 years old. In 2010, Washington Administrative Code (WAC) was changed to align testing rules with these recommendations. We designed this survey ascertain current state of barriers King County, Washington. Methods Between March 23 April 16, a convenience sample providers completed an online survey. Providers answered true-false multiple choice questions about national recommendations WAC, policies their primary clinical settings, personal practices. were asked agree or disagree whether commonly reported limited implementation screening. Results Although 76% 221 respondents knew that CDC regardless risk, 99 (45%) setting had policy target based on patient risk factors. Forty-four (20%) screening, 54 (25%) no official policy, 15 (7%) did not know existed. Only 11 (5%) offer all patients at initial visits. When 57% agreed perception population is low limits number tests they perform. 26 (13%) concern reimbursement posed barrier testing. Conclusions Most participating continue testing, despite knowledge Efforts are still needed educate policymakers, clarify recent WAC revisions, implement structural changes order increase State.
