摘要: Water chemistry data are reported for five high-altitude standing waters in the English Lake District, with current average pH values range 5–7. The show long-term increases pH, ranging from 0.3 to 0.8 units, between 1974 and 1997. of Devoke Water, which was acidified only mildly, has returned estimated pre-industrial period (1850 earlier). Alkalinity increased ca 20 μeq litre−1 early 1980s 70 1990s, alkalinities three other have by since 1970s. For two intensively monitored sites (Devoke Levers Water), significant decreases concentration non-marine sulphate demonstrated, taken place concurrently atmospheric deposition pollutant sulphur. Approximate calculations suggest that catchment a sink sulphur 1970s, may currently be source sulphate. neither nor is there evidence decrease base cations.
