摘要: The Lusk Creek Watershed, located in Pope County, IL, long has been recognized as a high quality area and biologically significant. Yet, surveys of the macroinvertebrate fauna have limited. Thus, survey benthic insect community upper portion was conducted from May 2003 to April 2005. Eleven sites were selected characterized by physical properties water chemistry. Insect distribution patterns, abundance, diversity (richness, evenness) examined. A total 20,888 specimens, mostly immatures, examined during study represented eight orders. Diptera, far, most common order, with 18,590 almost all which members Chironomidae Simuliidae. EPT (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera) combined 1,550 specimens but paled comparison Diptera. Coleoptera 647 Stenelmis (n = 612). Shannon index (H') showed that H' values for individual similar those reported other relatively undisturbed streams. Analyses richness suggested many 37 taxa unobserved, indicating incomplete.
