摘要: Vulnerability to the health impacts of climate change will be shaped by existing burden ill- and is expected highest in poor socio-economically marginalized populations. Sub-Saharan Africa, particular, considered a highly vulnerable region. This paper analyses vulnerability adaptive capacity rural Bakiga communities southwestern Uganda climate-sensitive risks. The objectives were threefold: i) identify key climate-sensitive, community-identified priorities; ii) describe characterize determinants sensitivity these priorities at individual, community regional levels; iii) assess Bakiga. Data collection employed combination individual informant interviews, biographies, future storylines, Photovoice. Three risks identified study (malaria, food insecurity, gastrointestinal illnesses) – all affected local climatic environmental conditions, livelihoods, land use changes, socio-economic conditions. Adaptation within dependent on their reduce sensitivities challenges among potential increasing exposures. Crop diversification, reducing deforestation, expanding livestock rearing, transfer traditional knowledge, access affordable services are strategies identified. We demonstrate significant vulnerabilities present day climate-related highlight importance non-climatic processes conditions creating Our place-based understanding useful inform interventions or policies aimed exposure support as face consistent with many other sub-Saharan African countries.
