摘要: Abstract Many studies have shown that the human blood fluke Schistosoma mansoni contains glycoproteins whose oligosaccharide side chains are antigenic in infected hosts. We report here adult male schistosomes synthesize containing complex-type N-linked structural features not commonly found mammalian glycoproteins. Adult worms were incubated media either [3H]mannose, [3H]glucosamine, or [3H]galactose, and metabolically radiolabeled oligosaccharides on newly synthesized analyzed. Schistosomes triantennary- biantennary-like asparagine-linked contain mannose, fucose, N-acetylglucosamine, N-acetylgalactosamine. Interestingly, none of sialic acid, few galactose. Since N-acetylgalactosamine is a common constituent mammalian-derived chains, we investigated position linkage this residue schistosome-derived glycopeptides. Virtually all was beta-linked terminal position. The unusual S. glycoprotein support possibility they may be involved host immune response to infection.
