摘要: The ocean's uptake of carbon dioxide increased during the 2000s. Models reveal that this was driven primarily by weak circulation in upper ocean, solving a mystery ocean science. See Letter p.215 has absorbed about 40 per cent anthropogenic CO2 emissions since beginning industrial era, making it largest sink. However, there is large decadal variability oceanic sink, and been difficult to attribute specific processes. This paper finds overturning primary driver changes over past several decades. Weaker year 2000, for example, led increases uptake.
