Behavioral Science and Medical Education: The Role of Reflective Exercises in Developing Medical Professionalism

摘要: Although the behavioral sciences have been largely incorporated into medical education, limitations and restrictions persist. It is goal of this paper to dispel some arguments against value science in education by studying effects reflective programs (i.e. Balint groups retreats) on residents’ professionalism. Data was collected from previous research peer-reviewed articles. The results demonstrated very diverse topics, with few studies focusing same processes within their programs. qualitative data consistently reported that self-reflection provided residents benefit, quantitative failed reliably reflect result. Nevertheless, common themes suggest exercises were effective increasing participants’ emotional intelligence (EI). As EI professionalism share important qualities components, future should be conducted quantitatively measure effect EI.
