摘要: DSM-5 has lifted the age criterion in definition of separation anxiety disorder thereby overturning long-standing convention restricting diagnosis to childhood. Previously, adults with symptoms were assigned other conventional categories such as panic disorder, agoraphobia or generalized disorder. Over past two decades, an evolving body research identified adulthood, 20-40% adult psychiatric outpatients being that diagnosis. In US, lifetime prevalence adulthood is 6.6%. The removal restriction on important implications for clinical practice. Whereas parents (particularly mothers) children commonly attracted agoraphobia, latter are more likely now be diagnosed form focusing attention importance intervening both members dyad overcome mutual reinforcement symptoms. addition, have been found manifest high levels disability and they tend show a poor response psychological pharmacological treatments. There urgent need therefore devise novel interventions reformulation requires paradigm shift which clinicians alerted identifying treating condition all groups. Research across countries needed examine new formulation amongst populations diverse ethnic cultural backgrounds.
